Salary Range: $35000-$45000

Under general supervision, performs skilled servicing and repair functions on environmental control components and systems, as well as performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled building trade tasks and activities in the general maintenance and repair of county building, facilities, equipment, and furnishings. Work involves troubleshooting, record keeping, project and demolition work, as well as other duties, as assigned. Work is performed with independence in accordance with standard trade practices and state and federal regulations, as well as internal policies, procedures, and guidelines. Lead worker guidance and direction may routinely be exercised over other maintenance staff.

This position will be introduced to and have the opportunity to learn the latest technologies available in operation, security, communication, and data systems that are being installed in the recently completed $40 million expansion and remodeling of Law & Justice Center. These systems will provide exciting opportunities to learn and develop strategies and best practices for the operation of both new and mature buildings/facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Performs skill tasks in maintaining and repairing buildings and facilities using a variety of machines, tools and equipment

Troubleshoots operational and facility problems

Diagnoses maintenance and repair needs

Installs and repairs all components and devices of electrical systems and equipment

Installs and repairs all types of plumbing system devices and fixtures

Repairs mechanical security devices

Performs a variety of skilled carpentry, framing, dry walling and other remodeling tasks

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Considerable knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools, and equipment associated with various trades and used in the maintenance and repair of buildings and facilities.

Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary in general building maintenance and trades work.

Knowledge of various HVAC mechanical systems and components, including related electrical components.

Knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools, and equipment associated with servicing and repairing HVAC mechanical systems and components.

Skill in the use and care of tools, equipment, and vehicles associated with the work of the class.

Ability to perform a variety of semi-skill and skilled maintenance and repair assignments with considerable independence.

Ability to prepare and interpret plans and sketches associated with the work of the class.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to work outside in variable and adverse weather conditions, as needed.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and supervisors.

Ability to oversee and direct the work of other maintenance support personnel on projects.

Ability to pass a background and polygraph exam, as required by the position.

Desired Skills

Required Qualifications

High school graduation, or possession of a GED Certificate

Considerable experience (4-6 years) in the use and operation of equipment and tools used in the maintenance and repair of buildings, including experience maintaining environmental (HVAC) control components and systems

OR any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the above noted knowledge, skills and abilities

Illinois Driver"s License, proof of insurability and a safe driving record.
