Energy Efficiency Evaluation Intern

Our interdisciplinary team of consultants develops actionable and insightful research to support an array of clients helping to shape the clean energy future, including electric and gas utilities, regulators, and stakeholders. Our research supports the planning, evaluation, and optimization of energy efficiency, demand response, and distributed energy resource programs. Projects also include customer experience research, formative market research for new and existing programs, technology assessments, market characterization and potential studies, and advising on program design and implementation. Opinion Dynamics is seeking a full-time, paid evaluation intern during the summer of 2021 to support the company’s evaluation of energy efficiency programs in the Midwest. In this role, you will learn about the role of utilities in energy efficiency and the types of programs offered to help consumers save energy; hone your research skills and learn about the field of program evaluation; and help contribute to understanding the impact of energy efficiency on communities in Illinois.
Intern Responsibilities
Work directly with members of Opinion Dynamics’ portfolio evaluation team, which includes engineers, social scientists, statisticians, public policy experts and data scientists
Assist with the execution of evaluation studies by:
Recruiting interview participants
Gathering data through interviews and/or event observation
Analyzing survey data and/or interview findings
Conducting literature reviews and secondary research
Analyzing program tracking data utilizing Excel or other data analysis tools
Help prepare memos, presentations, and reports as needed
Completing other miscellaneous projects as assigned
Internship Details
This internship will be remote (any location within Illinois is acceptable) and will involve regular coordination and remote meetings with Opinion Dynamics staff.
This internship is open to students who are residents of the state of Illinois or who are currently studying at Illinois-based educational institutions.
The internship will last from approximately early June through mid-August (exact dates are negotiable, but the internship will be under way no later than June 7 and end no earlier than August 6).
This internship is full time (no less than 30 hours/week) and paid.
