Salary Range: $45000-$55000

The incumbent effectively maintains and operates all boilers, pumps, motors, turbine engines, air compressors, and any other machinery which involves the heating and cooling of units owned by the Springfield Housing Authority. Assist Engineering personnel in the inspection and maintenance of water systems, air conditioning and heating units; checks and records reading gauges. Acts as general assistant to ship engineer rendering help in the operation, installation, alteration, repair and maintenance of all heating equipment. Make adjustments and minor repairs to boilers, furnaces or heating systems. Observes resistance or pressure drop at filters in air handling units and changes filters when necessary; checks and cleans blower fans; oils electric motors and repack bearings.

Desired Skills

Knowledge of housing authority building, health, safety, sanitation, and energy conservation codes and ordinances; Housing Quality or other standards, processes, procedures, policies, and regulations; Knowledge and skill in the use, care, and repair of tools, equipment, and supplies used to clean and repair heating and cooling equipment; Knowledge of occupational hazards and ability to consistently apply applicable precautionary and safety measures for oneself and/or others; Skill and ability in the areas of heating and cooling maintenance and repairs; Skill in organizing, planning, monitoring, and following-up as necessary; Skill in the use operating a forklift and bucket truck; Skill in the use of office equipment, computers, and software; Ability to work independently in an organized, thorough, detailed, accurate, and efficient manner; Ability to communicate (oral and written) and interact with diverse individuals (public, outside agencies/vendors, and co-workers) in a courteous, confidential, effective, positive, professional, and ethical manner; Ability to maintain a valid Illinois driver’s license and be an insurable SHA driver; Ability to ensure all units are in compliance with housing authority housekeeping and UPCS standards; Ability to prepare simple records and reports.
